The Sjögren's, Fibromyalgia and IBS Connection

Four years ago, I wrote a blog post about the connection between Sjogren's and Gut Health. My intention was to start a conversation on this topic.

I have been considering whether to update it with new information or create a new blog post altogether because of the following developments:

  • Sjogren's Syndrome is now referred to as Sjogren's Disease, which is a complex systemic autoimmune disease. Up to 20-40% of patients may present with small fibre neuropathy or dysautonomia.
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome is no longer considered just a functional gut disorder. It's now recognized as a gut-brain axis disorder with specific symptoms and management.
  • Fibromyalgia might be associated with autoimmunity and neuroinflammation. While I work on my new blog post, I invite you to watch the recording of my webinar on the Low FODMAP diet for Sjogren's.

I often crave "comfort foods" during winter and flare ups, which means indulging in sugary and fatty snacks, especially from a Colombian store. That what was part of my conversation with Andrea Hardy, RD, earlier this month about constipation, especially when you have an...
